Day 04 - Monday: FLIGHT Cairo - Luxor - Cruise Embarkation
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Luxor. Time of transfer and Domestic Flight Tickets will be provided on the first day of your arrival to Cairo.

Luxor Temple: A magnificent example of Egyptian temple architecture, along with Karnak Temple this was one of the most sacred and important Temples of Ancient Thebes (now Luxor City). This temple was dedicated to Amun Ra, King of Gods and his wife Mut (Goddess of War). It is built parallel to the River Nile. At Luxor, you will find Colossal Statues of Rameses and large 24-meter tall carved pylons. One of the two Obelisks that once stood at the entrance of Luxor Temple remains, the other was removed and transported to France in 1874 and now sits at the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Another site worth mentioning is the Mosque of Abu El Hagag which was built on top of the buried ruins of Luxor Temple; after the Temple was uncovered the Mosque was preserved and is still a place of worship until today. Karnak Temple: Located on the East bank this is the largest temple complex in Egypt. Built over a period of 1300 years to honor the god Amun of Thebes, his wife Mut, and Sons Khons. An impressive complex of over 25 Temples full of Sanctuaries, big columns, and Obelisks. At least thirty Pharaohs have been represented here over a period. One of the highlights is the Hypostyle Hall with 134 enormous pillars, certainly an awe-inspiring place. 17:30 Return to the Ship for afternoon Tea.

Nile West Bank to see the famous Necropolis for pharaohs and nobles: The Valley of the Kings most well known for being the place where Tutankhamun's Tomb was discovered. Tutankhamun's treasures are now in Cairo's Egyptian Museum. The Valley of the Kings is a World Heritage site, many of the tombs are closed to the public, and your guide will direct you to the ones that are open. Queen of Hatshepsut Temple: Dedicated to the first female Pharaoh, set at the head of the valley, this temple is the best example of Egyptian classical style architecture. Built to express the grandeur of the Pharaoh as well as honoring the gods that she would need in the afterlife. After her death, all of her statues were defaced by her son Tuthmosis III. Stop by the Colossi of Memnon: These are all that remains of the largest and most opulent Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep. 13:00 Return to the Ship for lunch. The walls are lined with inscriptions and hieroglyphics depicting the age old struggle between Horus and Seth. This impressive example of the Ptolemaic architecture is said to have taken 180 years to complete. Built in the Greco-Roma Era is the most well preserved and complete Egyptian temple. 08:30 Join your Guide to visit: The High Dam: Bordering Egypt and Sudan, this is the world's largest dam, its construction finished in 1970. It changed the life of Egyptian people by providing flood protection, irrigation, and electricity to Egypt. Construction of the dam required the enormous task of relocating many ancient monuments along the banks of the Nile. A project that was only possible by using very advanced engineering and the cooperation of many Countries. Granite Quarries with Unfinished Obelisk: Most of the red granite used to build Egypt's Temples and Tombs came from these quarries. Here lies the Unfinished Obelisk still attached to the bedrock. Abandoned when a crack appeared while working on it. Its weight is calculated at 110 tons and would have been the world's largest piece of solid stone ever carved. Temple of Philae: On the island of Agilkia, lies the beautiful temple of Philae, dating from 380 BC. Erected to honor the goddess Isis, it was moved from its original location in 1960, relocated from the holy island of Philae in the middle of Lake Nasser. Many of the buildings and monuments were painstakingly moved from Philae, as it was continually flooded and eventually submerged in Lake Nasser. 13:00 Return to the Ship for Lunch.

This relaxing boat ride takes you around Elephantine Island (also known as Kitchener Island) home of the Botanical Gardens of Aswan. From the boat admire the beauty of the Aga Khan Mausoleum built for the spiritual leader of the Ismaili's, a Shiite sect. 17:30 Return to the Ship for Afternoon Tea.

Day 11 - Monday: Tel Aviv - Beersheba - Masada - Dead Sea - Jerusalem
Breakfast at the Hotel then drive south of Tel Aviv for a drive through the City of Beer Sheba, the largest City in the Negev Desert. En route you pass Ashdod and Ashkelon, making a stop to view the northern part of the Negev Desert.
Arrive to Masada, take a cable car to the top of the Mountain where this beautiful Fortress is located. From there also enjoy magnificent views of the Dead Sea. Masada is a World Heritage List UNESCO site, built by Herod the Great King of Judea, some of the highlights you will visit within the complex are: Harod's Palaces, The Synagogue, and the Bath house.
Later descend to the shores of the Dead Sea and enjoy the unique experience of floating in the salty waters of the Dead Sea.
Afterwards continue to Jerusalem.
Check in at your Hotel in Jerusalem and Overnight.

Day 12 - Tuesday: Jerusalem - New City
After breakfast, visit the Israel Museum's Shrine of the Book; This wing of the Israel Museum is a beautiful and unique building that houses the first Dead Sea Scrolls found in a Cave at Qumran by the Dead Sea.
Then a visit to the scale model of the Herodian City of Jerusalem, this very impressive model depicts the City of Jerusalem in the Second Temple Period.
Continue to Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Museum, Israel's official Memorial to the victims of the Holocaust located in the New Jerusalem. See displays of pictures and written accounts that depict the suffering of the Jewish people during World War II.
Later drive to the charming Village of Ein Karem. Ein Karem is where John the Baptist was born and raised; now home to several monasteries and Churches is a tranquil Town with vineyards and trees but also trendy stores and outdoor restaurants.
Visit Bethlehem the birthplace of Jesus at the Church of the Nativity and Manger Square.
Return to your Hotel.

Day 13 - Wednesday: Jerusalem - Old City - Bethlehem
After breakfast at the Hotel, your Guide will take you on tour of the Old City, walk through one of the gates of the walled Old City visiting, The Jewish Quarter: wander through its ancient alleyways lined with many interesting shops and traditional restaurants.
Wailing Wall: Also known as the Western Wall is the most visited and sacred place for the Jewish faith, is all that remains of the four walls built by Herod the Great to support the Temple of Jerusalem.
Via Dolorosa: "The Way of Grief," in Latin. Via Dolorosa is located in the old city of Jerusalem and is a path where Jesus was lead in stifling pain carrying the cross of crucifixion.
Walk the Fourteen stations located along this path, based on events which happened on the way to the Golgotha hill, the site of the crucifixion.
Church of the Holy Sepulcher: Known as the place of both the crucifixion and the tomb of Jesus of Nazareth The church has traditionally been a major pilgrimage center for Christians all around the world.
After a lunch break Continue your tour by visiting:
Mount Zion, A holy site shared by people of Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths, the Temple Mount is the highest point of the ancient City of Jerusalem. Here you visit The Tomb of King David, The Room of the Last Supper and Dormition Abbey which is a Monastery built in memory of the Virgin Mary.
Enjoy panoramic views of Jerusalem from atop the Mt. of Olives. Visit the Garden of Gethsemane. Walk amongst the ancient olive trees of this Garden, believed to be the place that Jesus and his disciples came to after the Last Supper, visit the adjacent Basilica of the Agony also known as the Church of all Nations.
Visit Mahane Yehuda to experience the flavors, aromas colors of the largest market in Israel.

After breakfast drive through the beautiful Jordan Valley to visit the archeological remains of the ancient Roman City of Beit Shean, see the excavations; be amazed by its columns the impressive Theater and the bathhouse.
Continue to Nazareth to visit the Church of the Annunciation this impressive two-level Basilica was built at the site where the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the young Virgin Mary, on the lower level you find the cave home of the Virgin Mary.
In the same area visit Saint Joseph Church built on the site where the house of Joseph and the holy family was located.
Proceed to Safed, City of Kabbalah and center of Jewish mysticism, to visit the beautiful streets of the artist colony.
Today get a Kibbutz experience; overnight at a Kibbutz Hotel In the Galilee.

Day 15 - Friday: Tour around the Sea of Galilee & Golan Heights - Capernaum - Tabgha - Tiberias
Breakfast at the Hotel, then you drive to the Golan Heights, passing by Banias the source of the Jordan river, former Syrian Fortifications, and the Druze villages.
Enjoy an Israeli Wine Country Experience, with vineyards surrounded by breathtaking views. The visit Includes wine tasting.
Descend to the shore of the Sea of Galilee and proceed to the town of Capernaum, to visit The ruins of the Ancient Synagogue, Mount of Beatitudes, the traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount and Tabgha, where the miracle of the fish and bread took place. Continue to Tiberias for a short tour of the old center of Jewish learning.
Optional sailing in a boat across the Sea of Galilee to experience the tranquility and scenery little changed during the past 2000 years (subject to conditions and fee paid locally).
Return to the Kibbutz hotel for overnight.

Day 16 - Saturday: Acre - Haifa - Caesarea - Tel Aviv / Jafffa
This morning after breakfast drive west to visit Acre (also known as Akko) this crusader ancient City is an UNESCO World Heritage site, wander through the beautiful medieval fortifications and tunnels.
Continue on to Haifa where you will enjoy a panoramic sightseeing City tour of one of the most charming Cities in the Middle East. Haifa is the World Center of the Bahai Faith famous for its magnificent gardens.
Visit Mount Carmel and get beautiful views of the sea, Haifa Bay and the City below. Keep driving along the coast to Caesarea National Park, one of Israel's most important archeological sites see the Harbour built by King Herod, the Hippodrome and the restored Roman Amphitheater that in the summer months holds music events.
Later drive back to Tel Aviv, on the way enjoy a panoramic driving tour of the ancient Port City of Jaffa. Explore the alleyways and narrow streets lined with unique stores and art galleries that make this unique area a favorite with tourist and locals alike. Some of the highlights are: the walls of the Old City, the seaside promenade and the famous flea market.

There was a bit of hesitancy regarding the upfront, non refundable cost (travel insurance helps) but the fact the tour would not be cancelled was a plus. We ended up with a private guide (Tut) who gave us a fantastic first 3 days....

The things we saw, the food we ate, and the people who we met were all so much fun. The people who greated us and guided us through Egypt were so kind, considerate, and very knowledgeable making the experience unforgettable.
