The first European settlers came to Comox in 1862 and immediately discovered why the First Nations called it the ‘land of plenty’. Comox is also a great place for culture and through the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Comox Valley was the proud recipient of the 2007 Cultural Capital of Canada. Comox’s name derives from the First Nations word k’omoks which means “land of plenty”.
Comox is located in the East Coast of the Central Vancouver Island, you can get there in many ways, by land air or sea (ferry). When in Comox visit the Comox Air Force Museum and Heritage Airpark, the Cumberland Museum Archives, the Comox Valley At Gallery. For some adventure visit Forbidden Plateau Recreation Area offering a variety of hiking and mountain biking trails and access to Strathcona Park.
