Mazatlan Vacation Information:
Mazatlan is located on the Pacific Coast and belonging to the state of Sinaloa, and across from the tip of Baja California Peninsula. The name Mazatlan means "place of the deer" in the Nahuatl language. Mazatlan was founded in 1531. In the mid 1800’s a large number of people arriving from Germany settled in Mazatlan, and made of Mazatlan an important commercial seaport that imported equipment for the gold and silver mines.
Mazatlan was also the capital city of the state of Sinaloa from 1859 to 1873. The immigrants from Germany influenced the local's music "banda" an alteration of German folk music, and started a brewery.
Mazatlan has a population of about 352,500 people according to the census of 2005 and it is the second largest city in the state, after Culiacan. Mazatlan is a popular vacation destination with sandy and beautiful beaches lined with resort hotels.

Mazatlan is served by General Rafael Buelna International Airport with many flights to important cities in the US and Mexico, there is also ferry service across the sea to La Paz in the Baja California Peninsula.
Formerly known as a popular spring break destination and party town, Mazatlan now attracts families, mature travellers and tourist looking for a good deal and value.
