Greece Vacation Information:

Located in South Eastern Europe and the south end of the Balkan Peninsula its territory is made up of main land Europe plus a number of islands, islets and rock islands. Greece's capital city is Athens and the country's population is estimated at 11.3 million people.
Greece's tourism industry plays an important role in the country's economy; in 2004 Greece received 16.5 million visitors. Greece is well known for its ancient sites of the Acropolis in Athens, the amphitheatre of Epidaurus and the Palace of Knossos are among the most recognized. Greece offers many historical sites, museums, and lots of people go to Greece also for its beaches. Among the best beaches in Greece are Arvanitia, Plaka, Paradise, Lalaria Beach, Myrtos and Vroulidia.
Greece has a number of islands among them Crete, Santorini, Tinos, Rhodes, Skyros Hydra, all of them offering great beaches and places to relax and most important away from the big cities.
Greece offers a number of museums, the ones not to be missed are National Archaeological Museum in Athens features a stunning collection of red and black figure vases, bronze statues, gold figures; the Museum of Popular Greek Musical Instruments located in Athens featuring actual size photos of musicians holding their instruments and recordings of music; Archaeological Museum of Iraklion located in Crete features the Minoan collection of bronze figurines and gold jewellery; Archaeological Museum of Chania also in Crete and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki & Museum of Byzantine Culture located in northern Greece, this two museums display the art and architecture of the Thessaloniki culture and the Byzantine legacy.
