Punta Cana Vacation Information:
Located on the east coast in the most eastern province of Dominican Republic, Punta Cana is the largest tourist and golf destination in the Caribbean and on the list of the 100 places to visit before you die for its beauty. The region has 100 km of coastline divided into 8 beaches from the south to the north, Cap Cana, Punta Cana, Cabeza de Toro, Bavaro, El Cortecito, Arena Gordo, Macao and Uvero Alto. The Hotel Zone in Punta Cana is 25 mins from the airport.
Punta Cana has five Casinos making a favourite for people looking to gamble during their holiday. For Golfers Punta Cana offers three 18 hole and one 9 hole Golf Courses. Famous for its wide white sand beaches and shallow bays for swimming it is a perfect place to get away and just relax enjoying the warm azure waters of the Caribbean. Off of the resort you can rent a 4x4 and drive to El Seibo or Hato Major to explore the deserted beaches like El Maco, or the wetlands, see Taino cave drawings, coconut groves and stop in Higuey, the 500 year old provincial capitol. Motorized water sports abound. Fishing trips, safari excursions in monster trucks or a free shuttle from your hotel to Manati Park Marinarium or Dolphin Island to swim with the dolphins will keep you entertained when not at the beach. Sail by catamaran to Catalina or Saona Island for scuba diving and snorkelling. Zip line canopy adventure and several ranches for horseback riding round out the weeks activities for the more adventurous.
Food is plentiful and varied. Although foods from many nationalities are available at the resorts, local Dominican dishes are worth trying. A cross between Spanish and Taino Indian cooking, the food is not heavily spiced but very tasty, often a combination of well cooked meat, rice and beans. One of the national dishes, La Bandera is a combination of stewed meat (usually goat), rice and beans, salad and fried plantains. Desserts tend to be much sweeter by North American standards. Beverages are bottled water, rum, beer and non-alcoholic drinks made of fruit juice and of course Dominican coffee. Tea is available but the choice of herbal teas is limited. Dress code is usually required for Dinner at most Punta Cana Resorts.
