Puerto Plata:
San Felipe de Puerto Plata, simply known as Puerto Plata, is the capital city of the province of the same name. Puerto Plata is famous for having world class beach resorts at Playa Dorada and Costa Dorada, located in the eastern part of the city. The area has a total of 100,000 hotel beds to accommodate its visitors. Pico Isabel Las Torres, an 800 meter high mountain features a botanical garden and a replica of the Christ Redeemer the same one from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Puerto Plata also is the site for the Fortaleza San Felipe (Fort SanFelipe) built in the 16th century and later the same served as a prison under Rafael Trujillo’s dictatorship during the 1930’s. The amber museum is also a well known site to visit in Puerto Plata as well La Isabel, a settlement that Christopher Columbus built back in the 1500’s.

Puerto Plata’s Gregorio Luperon Airport serves as the city’s international airport for all international and domestic flights. Puerto Plata is the largest city on the northern seaboard of the Dominican Republic.
