Holguin:
When Christopher Columbus caught his first glimpse of Cuba along the coast of what is now Holguin province, he exclaimed, “This is the most beautiful land that human eyes have ever seen”. Holguin was founded in 1545 as San Isidoro de Holguin its original name. The capital of the province which is also called Holguin is known as “the city of parks” and served by Frank Pais International Airport. Local attractions include the Hill of the Cross, which participants in the May festivals climb as part of the festivity, Marqueta Square, the Municipal Museum, and Mayabe Look-Out Point from which you can see the full extent of Mayabe Valley.
