The Cuban Convertible Peso is the currency intended for tourists, is not available outside of cuba. Credit cards that are accepted as long as they have not been drawn by an American bank, travelers cheques may not be accepted at all hotels, ATM machines are not usually available. Electricity varies between 110v or 220v therefore to bring a converter is recommended. Long distance charges are very expensive in Holguin opt to buy a calling card instead, internet services are not readily available or is not reliable. Walkie talkies, GPS, and cordless phones are not allowed. Flying time to Cuba is 3 to 4 hours non stop. You are required to pay $25 convertible pesos in exact cash per person for the Cuban departure tax upon leaving Holguin. Bottled water is recommended. Travel Medical Insurance is mandatory for all visitors to Cuba.
