Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil and the third largest in South America. The city of Rio, as it is commonly known, is famous for its carnival celebration, samba music, and its beaches. Famous beaches in Rio are the Copacabana and Ipanema. One of the most famous landmarks in Rio in addition to the beaches is the monster statue of Christ the Redeemer located atop Corcovado Mountain and named one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Also in Rio you will find Maracana Stadium, the world’s largest football (soccer) stadium.
Despite being a charming and beautiful city, Rio is one of the most violent cities in the world due to severe social issues, luckily for tourists the violence concentrates on the outside of the city in the shanty towns. Rio has an annual minimum temperature of 20C and the average maximum is 26 C. The best time to go to Rio is definitely in February when the Carnival is happening, make sure to arrive at least a week before, so you can enjoy the rest of the city and spend some time visiting museums soaking up some sun rays, enjoy the food and watching people dance.
