Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and the economic industrial and cultural heart of the country. Mexico City has a population of 8.8 million people and it is the largest city in Mexico, the metropolitan area exceeds 19 million people, second largest in Latin America.

The city lays on the Valley of Mexico also known as the valley of Anahuac at an altitude of 2,240 meters above sea level. In 1585 the area officially became Ciudad de Mexico (Mexico City).

Today the city is a one of the largest in the world and many tourists have avoided visiting the city recently because of its problems with pollution, traffic and crime, but major steps have been taken to improve on that. The problem still persists but it is much better. Despite all those things, Mexico City is a must-see; the city is full of energy and culture, great dining places, and shopping centers.
