Dhaka is the capital city of Bangladesh and main city of the Dhaka district. Dhaka is a mega city and one of the major cities in South Asia with a population of 12.5 million people. With approximately 400,000 rickshaws running each day, Dhaka is the Rickshaw capital of the world. Dhaka is the heart of politics, culture and economic life in Bangladesh. The city’s urban infrastructure is the most developed in the country; still Dhaka suffers from pollution, traffic jams, and lack of services for a growing population. Recently the city has seen some relief for these problems in the form of modern transport, communications and public services.

Dhaka has a vibrant cultural life, annual celebrations for Independence Day (March 26), Language Martyrs’ Day (February 21), and Victory Day (December 16) are celebrated across the city. Places of interest in Dhaka include the Hindu temples of Dhakeshwari and Ramkrishna Mission, the National Memorial, the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, the National Museum, and the Mausoleum of National Leaders, just to name a few.
