Amman Flights
Amman is the capital city of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with a population of 2,525,000 people. Amman is the administrative and commercial center of Jordan as well as being the largest city in the Kingdom of Jordan. The city is also one of the oldest in the world. In 1994 an excavation in the city uncovered towers and homes believed to have been from the Stone Age. Amman’s “modern” history begins in the late 19th century (1878) when the city became the Ammonite capital of Rabbath-Ammon.
Sights of interested and of historical significance are clustered in the downtown area. The ancient Citadel is a good place to begin your tour of the city. The Citadel reveals many Roman, Byzantine and early Islamic excavations, the most impressive site being the al-Qasr simply known as "the Palace". Close to "The Palace" lies the Byzantine Basilica, of Corinthian columns mark the site of the church. There is also the temple of Hercules and the Jordan Archaeological Museum, the Roman Theatre, The Jordan Folklore Museum and the Museum of Popular Traditions just to name a few.
